3 Favorite Summer Activities You Can Drive to Near Hillsboro, OR

From free outdoor movies in August to horizon-expanding restaurants serving up delectable dishes from around the world, there is a lot to love about living in Hillsboro, OR. We particularly love the summer for many reasons, including the gorgeous weather and abundance of fun things to do. Today, we're looking at our favorite summer activities that are within driving distance of this beautiful, fun city.

1. Taking Your Furry Friend to Hondo Dog Park

One fun way to enjoy a warm summer day is to take your dog to Hondo Dog Park. Located at 4499 NE Century Blvd, this expansive park provides nearly four acres of fun for your pup. What we love the most about this park is that you can let your medium or large timid dog play in the small dog area to make them more comfortable. There are several features we love, including:

  • Dog drinking water stations
  • Shade trees
  • 2 fire hydrants

2. Picnicking at Rood Bridge Park

You also can't go wrong picnicking at Rood Bridge Park. Conveniently located at 4000 SE Rood Bridge Rd, you can find picnic areas, picnic shelters, and a beautiful pavilion that is perfect for family reunions or birthday parties. Once you're done with lunch, there is plenty to explore in this 58-acre park. For instance, you can sit on a bench and enjoy the weather while your kids let their imaginations run wild on the playground.

Additionally, you can find a watercraft launch granting you access to the Tualatin River. However, you should keep in mind that you can only launch car-top watercraft, like kayaks, canoes, and non-motorized boats that are no more than 15 feet long. Other fun things you can enjoy include:

  • Walking trails
  • Paved paths
  • Biking
  • Sunbathing
  • Tennis

3. Birding at Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve

Summer is also a great time for birding at Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve at 2600 SW Hillsboro Hwy. As the wetlands dry, Canadian geese, gadwalls, mallards, and other nesting waterfowl start producing young.

Additionally, you can spot fledging osprey and bald eagle chicks. Moreover, you can find an abundance of songbirds and swallows nesting here. This preserve is also a great place to hike. You can reach Vic's Grove from the Riparian Trail.

There is plenty to enjoy each summer in the Hillsboro area, but you can't enjoy everything this beautiful city offers without reliable transportation. If your car is over six years old, you may start experiencing frequent problems with its reliability soon. If you think it's time to upgrade to a more dependable vehicle, contact us today at Royal Moore Buick GMC to schedule a test drive for a 2023 Buick Enclave.
