Trim Levels (Exterior)
This year's GMC Sierra 1500 comes in a whopping eight different trim levels for maximum customizability. These include the entry-level Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. It's also available in regular, double, and crew cab configurations, along with three different bed lengths. The appearance of the vehicle in some ways is tied to the trim level. The SLT, for example, boats gloss-black aluminum wheels, while the AT4X gets distinctive badging, skid plates, and AEV-stamped front bumpers. The classy Denali offers a Vader Chrome-finished grille and bright machined aluminum wheels.
Engine (Power)
The Sierra 1500 is available with four different powertrains. It begins with a turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four that provides 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque driven by an eight-speed automatic transmission. This is followed by a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 with 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet paired with a 10-speed automatic. Next up, you can go for a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that generates 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque driven by an eight-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive, or a 10-speed automatic with four-wheel drive. Finally, the 6.2-liter V-8 nets you 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet, powered by a 10-speed automatic.
Performance
As with any pickup truck, your towing and hauling capacity will vary based on the trim level and configuration options you choose. With the 2.7-liter turbo engine, you get a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 pounds. The 5.3-liter V-8 nets you 11,200 pounds of towing, while the 6.2-liter V-8 can tow up to 13,000 pounds. Fans of diesel engines will love the Sierra's diesel, which offers best-in-class towing capacity for a 4WD diesel engine. It's capable, when properly equipped, of trailering up to 13,000 pounds.
Interior
The cabin of the GMC Sierra 1500 is cavernous with tons of headroom, shoulder space, and legroom up front and in the back. It's capable of seating three full-sized adults on the back bench seat comfortably. The front seats offer an impressive range of adjustments, so you can always find a good driving position. The technology is also astonishing, with an available 13.4-inch touchscreen driving the infotainment system.
